Well I do not usually write more than one post a day, but today is an exception. I was surfing around on Digg.com a few minutes ago and came up to the post that said Brett Favre is set to retire.

In an article I found by Jeff Ash and Mike Hoeft from Green Bay Press-Gazette, it stated that:

“”Brett Favre has informed us of his intention to retire from the Green Bay Packers and the NFL,” general manager Ted Thompson said in a statement. “He has had one of the greatest careers in the history of the National Football League, and he is able to walk away from the game on his own terms — not many players are able to do that.”

It is nice to see Brett Favre retire without seeing him get hurt anymore than he has throughout his career. I guess I can say everyone knew this day would eventually come and Favre would retire, we just did not want to acknowledge it. Brett Favre WAS the Green Bay Packers. I grew up watching Brett Favre play and he always was my favorite player. He gave us 16 seasons of memories that I will never forget. I have owned more Favre jerseys than all other players combined.

So who will be the heir to Brett Favre’s throne now that he is retiring? At this point it looks like Aaron Rogdgers will need to step up and fill the shoes. He has looked good when he plays so I think he will be fine. He might not be as entertaining, but I have faith the Packers will still dominate next year.

All I can say is thanks to Brett Favre. Even though you are retiring, you made the game of football something worth watching. You took are beloved Green Bay Packers to two Super Bowls and even won one for us. You won the MVP award three years in a row. You even made some of the funniest sound byte clips anyone has ever heard.

The game of football will miss you Brett Favre, but more importantly, so will all your fans around the World.
