This weekend was once again another eventful one full of sightseeing and exploring. I took a road trip up north to see Sedona, Flagstaff, and the Grand canyon for the first time.
Grand Canyon
Seeing the Grand Canyon was awesome and I would recommend it to anyone. It is amazing how a river could of created something so gigantic. It was much larger than I had even imagined.
If just seeing it wasn’t enough, where else could you sit on the edge of a rock overlooking a mile drop-off like this:
Flagstaff
The drive up to Flagstaff reminded me a lot of northern Wisconsin. It went through a lot of woods and creeks that were refreshing to see. Once we got to flagstaff, I realized it was definitly cooler than it was when we left Phoenix. I guess you can blame that on the 7,000 ft elevation.
There was not a lot of snow left, but we managed to find some near the Snow Bowl. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to buy a $1.87 pool raft from Wal-Mart and try sledding down the ski slope.

If you can’t tell from this picture, the raft blew up after trying to sled down twice. The seam blew out at the bottom and there was no way of repairing it. That pretty much put an end to the whole “sledding” thing.
Sedona
Seeing the red rocks was another amazing thing to see for the first time. It is such a different view than I have ever seen before and it is impressive on how tall some of the rocks are. The town is a very touristy type of place but there were a lot of cool shops that sold all sorts of things.
The photo to the right is one I took standing out front of a shop. It gives you an idea of how talk the mountains actually are in the background.

Great photos…back in 86 I was in Phoenix for a week with family and wanted to see the Grand Canyon. We got up at abou 4 and drove north to see Hally’s Comet, it was also in teh sky. Made it to meteor crater for sunrise, to the south rim for most of the day…I climbed in and took one of those photos looking straight down 1 mile, my right foot perched on a rock about a foot down. The wind was blowing, it could have easily been a very bad day if a gust came at the wrong time, but hey, I was 21, just a kid, and then we drove off to Oak Creek Canyon and Sedona to see the Red rocks at sunset. Made it back to Phoexnix, 23 hours later. What a day!
Wow, really nice pix! I’ve only seen the grand canyon from an airplane tour, which was great, but it looks so much better from where you were sitting.
