Google announced a few new features for their products today. It is always interesting to see what they have brewing over at the Googleplex. These are the two features I found to be the most interesting:
Gmail Custom Time
As I was checking my Gmail today, I noticed some read text up in the top right corner. Eager to see what it was, I clicked on it and was taken to a page explaining the new feature added to Gmail.
The feature is called “Custom Time” and it allows you to set a certain time for your emails, even if it is in the past. We no longer have to worry about being late on E-mails. By setting the date back, the E-mail will show up in the recipients inbox in the right order based on the date you set.
I sure wish this feature would of came out a lot sooner. I have had a lot of E-mails that I have responded to later than I should have. The only downside to the feature, is how far back in time you can go. When asked on how far back you can go, Google responded with:
“Yes. You’ll only be able to send email back until April 1, 2004, the day we launched Gmail. If we were to let you send an email from Gmail before Gmail existed, well, that would be like hanging out with your parents before you were born — crazy talk.”
I can’t wait to start using this feature at work. If I do not feel like responding to someone, I will wait until their out of the office and send them a back dated E-mail. When they come back, I will simply say “I sent it to you like a month ago, I suggest you look back in your inbox.”
It looks like some users have already started using it, on Google’s page which can be seen here, they posted a few testimonials including this one:
“I used to be an honest person; but now I don’t have to be. It’s just so much easier this way. I’ve gained a lot of productivity by not having to think about doing the ‘right’ thing.”
gDay™ with MATE™
If that wasn’t enough, Google also introduced gDay™ with MATE™ today. It allows you to search Google one day in advance. That way you can find results that haven’t even been created yet. This opens up countless possibilities. Betting on sports will never be easier since you can look up the scores ahead of time.
It will change the way the internet is used from now on. Even today’s new is old news now.
On case you actually believed this post, I just wanted to say…April Fools Day!
