Movie Idea: Escape From the Cube Farm

Escape From The Cube FarmSo I thought of an idea for a movie I thought I would share. I have always wanted to write a book, and then create a movie based off of it. Perhaps this will be it.

It would be the story of a middle-class American (could be me) giving up his job in a cubicle to find himself. The comfort of a steady paycheck and job are just not enough anymore to keep the man motivated.

He hates his commute, his boss, and the idea of sitting inside all day. He has lost all passion for the job he once thought he enjoyed, and feels he really needs to get out and try life from a different perspective.

He decides to sell all of his material possessions that he does not feel necessary. Pictures on the wall, DVD’s, TV’s, all the clutter he really doesn’t use that often. He keeps the things he feels necessary but nothing more.

He then embarks on a journey to travel around the world and see places he has only read about and seen pictures of. He hopes to meet as many people as he can along the way. His main goal is to find himself as a person. Soul searching is necessary in life, but sometimes it takes crazy ideas like this to find it.

The journey could be done by foot, car, train or any other way of traveling. Perhaps he starts by driving around the United States and just sleeping in his car when he is tired. Visiting all the cities he has wanted to visit but never managed to get time off from work to make it happen.

Along the way, he picks up temp jobs or gigs to make just enough money to be able to live comfortably. He also runs his website he shares with the people he meets in hopes of making a tad bit of money to keep him going.

He could also venture out of the United States and head to places like Europe and Australia. While he is out there, he could travel the countries by foot, train or bus. Sleeping could be done in hostels or by finding families that would be willing to take him in for a few nights.

Perhaps he writes blog posts about where he is going and tries to find some of his readers that would be willing to let him sleep on a floor (I wouldn’t mind trying this).

Along the journey, the man meets people that change his life. People influence him and inspire him to live the life he so chooses. He gains a lot of wisdom along the way and opens his mind to the world we live in. He no longer sees the world from a computer chair in a cubicle, but rather as a human being with a purpose.

He sees things that make the small things we complain about in our everyday lives seem pathetic. The things we take for granted are much easier for him to see now.

And this is where the plot gets tricky…

Because I cannot really say how it would end unless I did something like this. It’s hard to draw a conclusion of the journey without living through it. I think the man would write a book based on the diary he kept along the way. But I am not sure what he would do from this point on.

Does he go back to working an office job? Does he meet the love of his life along the way? Does he become a successful writer that is passionate about his new career? Does get on the Tonight Show?

Who knows, but I think it would be very interesting either way.

What do you think?

Who Invented The Alarm Clock?

Alarm ClockI woke up to the sound of my alarm clock this morning and wanted nothing more than to kill the fool that invented this tool from hell.

My entire drive to work consisted of nothing but thinking, why on Earth did this guy/girl have to come up with this idea of a clock that wakes you up in the morning?

Had that never been invented, I would of slowly made my way out of bed this morning at 9:30 and would have felt great. But no, someone had to have the brilliant idea of a clock that interrupts the human sleep cycle.

So who was it?

According to Wikipedia, “The first mechanical alarm clock was invented by Levi Hutchins, of New Hampshire, in the United States, in 1787. This device he made only for himself however, and it only rang at 4 AM, in order to wake him for his job.”

Levi, Levi, Levi, what on Earth were you thinking?

Obviously if you had to come up with an invention to get to work on time, that the job just was not for you. You should of quit the job and found a afternoon shift. Instead, you killed it for all of us. Now everyday we wake up to that awful sound and get out of bed hours before we’re ready too. Pablo Picasso could not have said it better, “Work is a necessity for man. Man invented the alarm clock.”  I sure wish we wouldn’t have…

More importantly, I now wake up angry and startled by the annoying sound of the devil clock. One of these days I am going to have a heart attack when it goes off and it will be because of your invention.

Even Wikipedia says that “Among annoyances caused by alarm clocks is sleep inertia, a feeling of grogginess that results from abrupt awakening.” So that’s why I wake up more tired than when I went to bed. It all has to do with that clock in my room.

I think the best solution is to throw away every alarm clock I own. If I do not wake up early enough to be on time to work, then it just wasn’t meant to be. I am tired of screwing with my sleep cycle to the point where I cannot even sleep anymore. I think I struggle to fall asleep simply because I am afraid the alarm clock is going to go off and scare the crap out of me.

So the next time you see Levi, please sucker punch him for me!

Bathroom Stall Hammock: Take 2

Yesterday’s post about my idea of creating a Bathroom Stall Hammock received more feedback than anticipated. One of the comments was from Carolina saying I should make a video. So I took Caroline’s advice, and created a infomercial showing off this so called Bathroom Stall Hammock.

Here it is:

If for some reason you cannot see the video, you can see it Here

We managed to shoot and edit the video all late last night since I wanted to get it up as soon as possible to share with my readers. There were a few small problems along the way but for the most part everything went as planned. I think it turned out awesome for being done in such a short time with a not so hot video camera and iMovie.

Another question I received via E-mail yesterday was whether or not this was actually available for purchasing. Well guess what, it is currently in the works. Who knows, maybe this thing will turn out to be one of those “Gag Gifts of the Year.”

If you are interested in receiving more information about the Bathroom Stall Hammock, please contact me via E-Mail.

I hope everyone enjoyed this movie and we hope to produce a few more in the near future. Please feel free to comment with any feedback.
