The Beach at Fort De Soto Park

One of my goals for 2010 is to check out as many beaches as I can here in Florida. The main reason being that each beach seems to be unique in its own way. With that in mind, I decided to go and check out the beach at Fort De Soto Park yesterday.

Fort De Soto Park was named America’s Top Beach by TripAdvisor in 2009. It appears that they loved the “spectacular combination of soft white sand, calm, clear water and a laid-back atmosphere.”

I can completely agree with all the above, as I found it to be my favorite Florida beach so far. It really amazed me as to how white the sand was and how clear the water appeared. Unfortunately, it was still a tad too cold to actually get in the water.

A Quick Video

Here is a really quick video I took to give you an idea of what the beach looks like:

As you can see, it was not nearly as crowded as some of the other beaches I have been to. Then again, it was a weekday so that probably has a lot to do with it. Either way, it felt a lot more secluded than some of the popular beaches I have been to.

A Few Details

The really cool thing about Fort DeSoto Park is that it has around 3 miles of beaches. There are also a bunch of trails to ride bike or rollerblade on, which is something I plan on doing the next time I head back there.

It also has a dog park if you want to bring your furry companion along. They even have a beach that allows dogs to swim in the water, which is pretty difficult to find.

So there you have it, another beach to check off the list. You can check out the beaches section for a list of all the beaches I’ve checked out so far.

3 miles of beaches!? That is cool. And exploring as many beaches as possible in Florida sounds like an excellent goal.

I really like the second last picture. Beautiful.

    • Yeah I really hope to check out every beach in Florida, though that may take some time…

And thanks for the kinds words about the picture, I’m actually using that one as my desktop wallpaper right now!

  2. I was fishing on one of the bridges leading out there yesterday afternoon. That is my favorite beach around here, too. Rented a kayak at that place there once and saw my first manatee there. There is much to do there.

    • Yeah I really liked it as well. Much cooler than the crowded beaches that’s for sure.

PS. The more you talk about kayaking, the more I want to go. My girlfriend and I are debating about when we should go. Hopefully in the next week or two.

The beach on a weekday, NICE! You probably wrote this post after breakfast relaxing in the morning…

How long of a trip from your home is it to the beach?
