I Will Not Die
Any follower of this blog knows, that over the last year I have had some struggles with office jobs. I have wanted nothing more than to leave my cubicle job to get out and actually do something with my life. Luckily, I managed to build enough courage and motivation last week to give my notice and start pursing a full-time career as a blogger.
With all of that said, I wanted to share a story very similar to mine. A few days ago, I received an email from Dereck Coatney. He is a blogger that shares the same visions as myself when it comes to jobs and life in general. So here is his story…
Cubicle Unhappy to Biking Expedition
Also known as C.U.B.E., is the name of Dereck’s expedition. Check out this page to see some YouTube videos he created for the journey. He also did an interview over at LifeReboot.com that really explains the details of what it is that he wants to do. Here is the paragraph that sums it up the best:
I’m leaving my cubicle and will be biking across America attempting to inspire an abundance of human kindness. I’m leaving my personal goals and ambitions behind me. I’m going to turn my attention to raising as much money for charity as possible. I’m taking a break and trying something new. I will be broadcasting the entire 2,300 mile trip live straight from the handlebars.
I think it’s a great idea and hope it becomes a reality. Leaving an office job to make the most of life is something I can relate to on every level. The fact that he also wants to use the journey to raise money for a better cause makes it even better.
The First Attempt Was A Failure
Unfortunately, Dereck did not raise enough money to support his family while he is out doing his expedition. He discussed his failure on this blog post and ended it with this quote:
But I’m stubborn.
And I taunt the failures that taunt me.
And I hunt them down.
And I destroy them.
So this is not over yet.
I must say, those are some pretty powerful words. I am a firm believer that anyone that ever tries at something can never really fail. Not trying in the first place would be a true failure.
He Will Not Give Up
Luckily, he has not given up on his dream but has instead brought it back to life. It would be easy to say I tried and failed but he has found the motivation to stick with it and make it happen. I give him all the credit in the world for not giving up.
So please, head on over to his blog I Will Not Die and check it out. If you you like what you see, leave some positive feedback and donate to a good cause. Also, hop on over to this Stumble page and give him a thumbs up and a review of his site. It would surely help him get more traffic and hopefully raise some more money.
Just remember the best part about blogging is helping others and making friends along the way…

I just read his blog today. I was forwarded there from Matthew Dryden’s blog. Very interesting. I kind of did the same thing, not totally though. I quit my Network Admin job and moved to Costa Rica and work from my home at my pace and my hours.
I wish him the best of luck and am giving him the thumbs up.
I will donate to him as well,

Are you still living in Costa Rica? I have actually thought of doing the exact same thing. Probably not forever, but just for awhile to get away and experience a different country. How is it there? Hard to make a go of it?
I have officially moved there, and do not want to return to the US. (OK, I am visiting my family in Cape Cod this week, but that’s the only reason I want to come back.)
Costa Rica is perfect, and was not hard to adjust. Spanish is rather easy to learn and most people can speak a little English. The reason I came here is because of the weather. It is on average 75 degrees every month of the year. There is the rain season which is from about June to November. It rains about every day, not bad though. Great mornings, beautiful until about noon, then the rain and it leaves after 6 to 8pm. No rain at all in the other months.
The best thing, it is cheap. If you like traveling and visiting the “real costa rica” and not the touristy spots you will really enjoy it and it will be cheap. As an example I am renting a 3 bedroom house for $360 a month! At these rates I don’t need to work that much at all.
If you are ever coming out, shoot me a line I will make sure you can get around.

That is awesome. Just curious, where in Costa Rica are you living?
I live in Barva de Heredia. About 15 minutes from San Jose…
Justin, wow – I can’t thank you enough. I really appreciate all the help.
All the best in your new ventures, Justin. I have worked from home for some years now and I love the freedom and lack of set routine. I could earn more money but I have come to realize that this really is not important and seeking more of the things money buys did not make me happy, it was just an indication of disatisfaction with life. I much prefer the contentment with life I have now and would not change it.
fascinating stuff. good to see that he refuses to give up. will head over to the site shortly.
Found your blog on blogcatalog.
I think it’s pretty cool what your buddy did and what you are planning on doing. I wish I had the guts to just pack up and say screw it. More power to you bro.
There is no failure when it comes to following your dreams and pasions- the act of doing is success. Not trying is to fail.
“the act of doing is success. Not trying is to fail.”
Just Perfect..
I am happy for you. Though it’s actually my first time dropping by your blog.
But I know that feeling-Knowing exactly what you want to deal with your own life.
Not giving up is critical to any endeavor. Biking across America is a difficult goal, and if you have a family, that means it is all the more harder. I’m sure he’ll be able to do it eventually, but things like these take time. As long as determination is maintained, one can do anything they set their mind to.
I want to quit my job and make money from blogging, but I suck in that aspect at least for now.
Any pointers so I can master the art of “quitting my job, and profiting off my blog?”. I’m not sure if my blog is actually profitable, what do you think?
I do own about 15 other domain names though.
C U B E , I love it! Best of luck to Dereck.
