The Time Has Finally Come

Well everyone, I have finally dropped the bomb and have given my two week notice. This has been long overdue, dating back to when I first started sometime in December. If you are new to my blog, my post Office Jobs: The Tipping Point from way back in April sums up my feelings on office jobs in the best way.

It has been a long ride, with a lot of ups and downs. A lot of my best posts were written as a result of my job. I even came up with a movie idea, Escape From the Cube Farm. I am surprised I stuck with it this long, but in a way I am glad I did. It made me realize that I can stick to anything as long as I try and stay positive (although it was REALLY hard as some points).

Where Do I Go From Here?

So the real question is what am I going to do now? My answer is give full-time blogging a go. I have tried hard in the past, but I have never hopped into it and given 100% of my time to actually making something happen. I now have the motivation to do it and make the best of it.

My dream job has always been to work on the internet, travel, and take photography. I love writing, web-design, and learning more and more about technology. I have never enjoyed sitting in a cubicle 8 – 5, I actually hate it with a passion.

I am also a night person, that loves working til the wee hours of the AM and my job never allowed that. I hate getting up to the sound of an alarm clock so much I once wrote a post on the guy that invented it.

So I have finally gone out on my own and have decided it is time to make some things happen! If I don’t give it a try now, I may never do it.

So stick around, the Life of Justin just got a whole lot more exciting.

PS. I might do something crazy to celebrate…look for a new post if I do

Wow! That’s a big leap. I did it almost eight years ago and have not looked back yet. Feel free to ask any questions and I’ll answer them if I can.

  2. Congrats, and I wish you the best of luck with your venture! One of the best things about working on the Internet is the ability to access it from anywhere. With the rise of laptops, wifi, and cyber cafe’s all over the world, it’s now possible to work from most anywhere (I hope to do this before too long myself).

  3. Congratulations!

Just like the other Justin, I did the same move as you this past April and have not looked back yet.
As Jade mentioned, working via the internet is an immensely un-tethered experience and makes you really appreciate your newfound freedom.

Looking forward to hearing about your celebration, don’t go too wild!

@Adam Don’t worry, I’m not going to go too crazy. I wouldn’t want to end up dying right after making my escape from the cube.

Justin Rains just sent a tweet about this, and I’ve got to say good for you! I just did the same thing and Friday was my last day. You’d be surprised how many people I know are in the same boat as us. Too many times, I, probably like you, was reminded too many times why I didn’t belong where I was and moved on.

Good luck to you. I know you made the right move, mostly because that’s how I feel about mine!

  13. Justin says:

Thanks again to everyone that commented! It was definitely one of the hardest things I have done lately, but it had to be done. I appreciate all of the positive feedback from everyone.

Please come back often and check out my blog, things should be getting a lot more interesting in the next few months.

  14. HI Justin – I’ve heard of others doing this and having it work. I wish you all the best, and will check back to see how you’re doing.

Congratulations for making the big step to freedom!

How exciting! I wanted to thank you for your insightful tips for blogging. Your journey to becoming a full time blogger really resonated with me. I agree, though I would love to see my website draw lots of traffic overnight, the journey of food writing has been (and continues to be) an incredible adventure I never would want to miss a moment of. Thank you for reminding me of that!

  20. Hello everyone,
